I Have Cat Allergies, But I Don't Want To Give Up My Cat.
Back to listingsEveryone has allergies, everyday. Our immune system is designed to deal with them by creating an antigen known as IgE.
Most of the time you don't even know this is going on, until ... the volume of allergens you are dealing with exceeds your "allergic threashold" and you have an allergic reaction. You know all about this, watery, itchy eyes, runney nose, sneezing, etc..
So while you may be able to cope perfectly with your cat's dander most of the year, in spring, when we are surrounded by pollen, that EXTRA load may be what's triggering the allergic reaction.
There are many things you can do to eliminate or substantially reduce cat allergies. We recommend trying these suggestions while you are looking for the right home for your cat. You never know, maybe you can clear your allergies enough to live well with kitty!
It’s all about reducing the concentration of cat dander in the air and environment to below the threshold at which your immune system reacts.
The foundation of any successful allergy mitigation is air filtration. If you can afford it, have a whole house air scrubber professionally installed. If this is not within your budget, we highly recommend the 3M Filtrete Central AC/Heating filters with a microparticle rating (MPR) of 1,500 or higher (Healthy Living 1500 – 2400: http://bit.ly/1lhifJS). These are rated to filter out pet dander from the air. These are very successful at removing or substantially reducing allergies.
